It’s berry season!
Strawberries, blueberries, currants, cherries, black raspberries, gooseberries, etc. are all in season! Don’t you just love this time of year! Many of us wait all year for it!
Because we love it so much, it can be so easy to eat a pound of strawberries in one sitting…no worries, we all have done it. Given that berries can be a bit pricey, it’s a good idea to take your time while eating them. IN FACT, the next time you eat berries…SAVOR THEM. Eat one at a time and savor each one for at least 5-10 seconds. Enjoy the freshness, complexity of flavor, and richness of each berry. This is especially useful when eating berries that have a lot seeds (e.g. raspberries or black raspberries) that tend to scratch our teeth.
When you savor your berries, they will taste better, you will digest them better, and you will eat fewer of them. The nerves in our taste buds are only fully responsive for the first few bites, so take advantage of those early bites.
