Now that the summer is coming to an end and we are entering the cool weather of the fall…do you know what foods are in season? (PS, if you are not in the USA, just keep reading…the message and links are still relevant)
Most people know and celebrate the foods of the summer…and they try to celebrate them all year long! And because almost everyone does this, it is very easy to forget about and celebrate the foods of the fall.
In fact, the fall is my taste bud’s favorite season. Why? The food of the fall has soaked up the sun and nutrients from the soil all summer long and, as a result, the foods are vibrant and incredible flavorful! Plus, I get to enjoy the final crops of tomatoes, raspberries, grapes, and watermelon, and welcome back peppers, lettuce, kale, winter squashes, apples, pears, nuts and seeds, and much more!
Not sure what is in season for you? Here are some great websites to find local seasonal charts for your country/state:
If your country is not listed, trying Googling the terms “Harvest calendar [and your country’s name]”. You may be suprised at what you find!
You can also visit a local farmers’ market and see what is being sold. It may not provide an extensive list, but it will give you an idea!
